July 4 Events on the Outer Banks

With a mix of races, parades, music, history, and spectacular fireworks, the Outer Banks delivers a full day of celebration.


Morning & Daytime Festivities

  • Freedom 5K & Fun Run (Kill Devil Hills Town Hall):5K at 7:30 am, Fun Run ~8:10 am

  • Killer Dunes 2‑Miler & Color Fun Run (Jockey’s Ridge):8 am start through the dunes

  • 4 on the 4th (Avon/Hatteras Island):7 am four-mile race; 1776 dash (~0.3 mi) at 8 am

  • Duck 4th of July Parade:9 am mile‑long parade, followed by family celebration at Duck Town Park

  • Hatteras Village Golf Cart Parade & Cookout:Parade at 6 pm (lineups by 5:45 pm at Teach’s Lair Marina), community cookout 5:30–7:30 pm

  • Independence Day 1850 at Island Farm (Manteo):9 am–3 pm historical living exhibit with farm animals & costumed interpreters.

Late Afternoon & Evening Fun on the OBX

  • Manteo Fourth of July Celebration:Downtown Manteo from 3–8 pm: national anthem, wacky hats, bike & apple pie contests, games, food trucks, then live music through the night.

  • Roanoke Island Festival Park:Patriotic music starts ~8 pm, concluded by fireworks at dusk

  • First Friday in Manteo:6–8 pm downtown gallery stroll and seasonal street-festival vibe.

Outer Banks Fireworks Displays

  • Kill Devil Hills at Avalon Pier:Launch at dusk (~9:15 pm), beachside viewing

  • Nags Head at Fishing Pier:9:25 pm fireworks over the Atlantic from MP 11.5

  • Avon Pier on Hatteras Island:9–9:15 pm show over Cape Hatteras National Seashore

  • Manteo Over Roanoke Sound/Shallowbag Bay:Fireworks begin after dark, viewable from downtown docks or Festival Park.

  • Corolla Historic Park Celebration:5–9 pm with live music & the northern OBX’s largest fireworks display at dusk
