If you lead an active lifestyle, there’s plenty of outdoor fun in store – Jarvis Landing is in an area filled with places of interest and where you’re always connected to nature. Whether you hike the Blueberry Ridge Trail, fly a kite at Jockey’s Ridge, run one of the Outer Banks’ 5K’s, wander around Roanoke Island, or head to the beach to enjoy pure relaxation, the options are endless. If you’re already an eastern North Carolina resident, chances are you still haven’t done it all. If you’re new to the area, here’s a short list of just some of the things you’ll be able to do…anytime you wish. So get out and explore – a few must-do’s near Jarvis Landing!

Play

The Pointe Golf Club

No time to play 18? Pop on over to the driving range and short game practice area at one of the area’s most fun and playable courses on the Outer Banks. The Pointe also boasts the area’s largest pro shop! 308 Pointe Golf Club Dr. in Powells Point.


H2OBX

Located in neighboring Powells Point, H2OBX is the newest waterpark in North Carolina. Rent a private cabana and float down the lazy river – a perfect way to beat the summer heat.  8526 Caratoke Hwy. in Powells Point.


North Carolina Aquarium at Roanoke Island

Too cloudy for the beach? The aquarium is the ultimate family-friendly excursion. Become a member and visit as often as you’d like. 374 Airport Rd. in Manteo.


Avalon Pier

Enjoy a day of fishing on this 700 foot pier. Grab your tackle at T.W. ‘s, and be sure to check out the tide charts – you can catch everything from trout and flounder to striper and cobia. 2111 N. Virginia Dare Trail in Kill Devil Hills.


Experience

Corolla

Hop on over to Corolla – with miles of beaches and beautiful wild horses, there’s nothing more relaxing. On your way back, be sure to check out Whalehead Club and the Currituck Beach Lighthouse. 1312 N. Beach Access Rd. in Corolla.


Duck Jazz Festival

Enjoy a free event! Live music, special activities, and exceptional food and drink make this a gathering worth checking out. Tip: There are a host of festivals on the Outer Banks throughout the year… and they’re all awesome. 1200 Duck Rd. in Duck.


Northwest River Natural Area Preserve

Chesapeake’s ultimate outdoor recreation site with year-round hiking, fishing, and boating is the perfect place to retreat for the day. Or grab your tent and enjoy a weekend retreat! Little known fact: They have a great 18-hole disc golf course! 1733 Indian Creek Rd. in Chesapeake.


Chesapeake Jubilee

Let the kids burn some off some energy. It’s more than a carnival – every May, locals meet up for music and entertainment, exhibits, fireworks, and good food. Turkey Leg! 900 Chesapeake Park Dr. in Chesapeake.


Eat and Drink

Surfin’ Spoon

Go get dessert! This is not your typical frozen yogurt bar – it’s a laid-back establishment owned by a pro surfer that also offers up organic made-from-scratch ice cream sandwiches. 3408 South Va. Dare Trail in Nags Head.


Sanctuary Vineyards

Warm up in the winter with a bowl of chowder + live music, and of course…wine! This social event takes place on weekends every January. 7005 Caratoke Hwy. in Jarvisburg.


Black Tartan Tap Room

Grab a meal with views of the 18th hole. Located at the Kilmarlic Golf Club, this is a great place to dine, even when you’re not golfing! Insider tip: Try Rob’s famous chicken tacos. 215 West Side Ln. in Powells Point.


Fish Heads

Love Seafood? Head out for 20-cent Happy Hour Shrimp at the OBX Fishing Pier. Voted Best of the Beach by locals – the view is second to none. 9801 S. Old Oregon Inlet Rd. in Nags Head.


Stock Up

Cavalier Surf Shop

Need some new beach gear? This family-owned and -operated spot offers boards, beach duds, and more. Known for providing the best customer service in the area, they’re also the go-to for group or private surf lessons. 4324 S. Virginia Dare Trail in Nags Head.


Weeping Radish

Swing by, and grab some provisions. It has it all – a farmer’s market, restaurant, brewery, and butcher shop. Insider tip: Try the Sauerkraut and the Kolsch. 6810 Caratoke Hwy. in Grandy.


Beacon Seafood

Pick up a bushel of crabs! This market offers the freshest seafood in town …and in the winter months, stop in for fresh Eastern Shore Oysters. 6378 Caratoke Hwy. in Grandy.
